Mo(o)nday Drops 🌙
Just because your symptoms are common, doesn't mean they are normal.
Happy Mo(o)nday my friends!
This weekend I was reminded of how often we accept our symptoms because they seem “normal”.
I just spent the weekend in Tahoe with a group of women for one of my best friend’s bachelorette parties. It was so lovely.
It was also incredibly illuminating.

Why?
Everyone was joking that I was on the clock the whole time — because the conversation continued to jump between hormone and gut imbalances.
Don’t get me wrong — I absolutely love to talk shop and be able to give advice to women as much as I can, but it also made me realize how many women are silently suffering.
How often women are belittling their symptoms because they are “tolerable” or are their “norm”.
I continue to be reminded of this in these conversations. How easy it is to write-off symptoms because they are seemingly “normal”, or their doctors tell them that “everything is fine”.
I am here to tell/remind you that your symptoms are not normal…
They may be common, but they are not normal.
In light of this weekend’s experience, today’s Mo(o)ndrop is:
Common symptoms ≠ normal
So let’s just get something clear right off the bat — no your:
Monthly mood swings
Cysts/tender breasts
Heavy periods
Acne
Cramping
Bloating
Diarrhea/constipation
Missing period
Food sensitivities
Are not normal….
I get it — it is easy to write-off your symptoms when your doctor tells you that you’re fine.
Or you get your bloodwork back and “everything looks fine”.
That is what was described to me over and over again this weekend.
These conversations reminded me of myself — when I used to tolerate painful periods and constant bloating and gassiness. It used to hurt when I pressed down on my stomach because of the gas bubbles stuck inside me. I used to be constipated for days.
But I didn’t think anything of it.
Why?
Because it was “normal” for me.
Many of those symptoms were also “normal” for my family members.
So why would I question it? Why would I think that something might actually be wrong?
This is why so many people end up severely sick down the line.
Because they didn’t realize that their baseline for tolerating pain and discomfort was so high.
This pattern needs to end.
And it honestly requires one simple (yet not so easy) effort.
To listen to our bodies.
This is truly all it takes to be able to understand what is going on inside.
I had a client today mention that she felt frustrated at herself for not figuring out sooner that she was having GI issues. I reminded her that she likely didn’t know any better, and that her symptoms probably felt “normal” to her.
I share this because I know that she is not alone in this experience. Tolerating pain because she doesn’t know any better. We are talking food making her sick every few months. No one made her believe that there was anything wrong with her symptoms, so why would she think otherwise?
Now she is on a journey to get her gut back on track, which will likely take a lot of time and effort.
This is why we cannot ignore our symptoms.
Our symptoms are not random, they are messages from the body that something needs to be looked at.
Sometimes it is minor. Just a couple of diet changes and supplements will do the trick.
Other times it is major. A protocol that can last 6-12 months.
These major protocols only happen when we ignore our symptoms for too long.
I also want to acknowledge that I understand the fear that can come up when it comes addressing our health.
Looking under the hood and seeing what is actually going on inside.
But if I can tell you from both personal experience and literally all of the clients that…
you never regret it.
Because when we know what the hell is going on with our bodies, we gain so much power. We become more aware of how the body is trying to communicate with us and what it needs on a day to day basis.
It allows us to develop a deep trust and confidence with ourselves.
This is how we can live a life where we actually feel amazing!
Not just “okay”… amazing!
So to wrap up this week’s Mo(o)nday drop:
common ≠ normal
Don’t let fear get in the way of living your best life.
We only get to live this life once.
So why waste it suffering through symptoms just because you were too afraid to look at what was going on inside?
The sooner you do it — the less scary it will be.
Promise.
If reading this gave you a nagging feeling inside that it is time to go deeper and address what your body has been trying to tell you, my doors are open for a chat. There is no pressure to work together, but just a way to gather more understanding of what may be going on, and if it is worth investigating further. You can learn more about my work here or book a free call with me here.
Remember — you should always be your number 1 priority. If you can’t take care of yourself, how to you expect to be able to take care of others?
You don’t need to keep gaslighting your symptoms. Your symptoms are real. And they are worth understanding more deeply.
With love,
Sam
